Mentorship Program

At SCP, we believe that every young person has the potential to succeed, but sometimes they need some help getting there. Street Culture Project’s Mentorship program aims to empower Regina youth by providing individual, group, and community-based mentoring, along with supportive guidance in developing independent living skills. Youths 8-21 are referred to the Mentorship program through the Ministry of Social Services. Youth are paired with mentors based on compatibility, skills, abilities, gender, and personal interests in order to build an effective and trusting working relationship.

Through these relationships, at-risk youth will be able to access resources that can support their development into confident adults who are able to make informed decisions about their futures and become leaders within their communities. The goal of the mentorship program is to improve the lives of young people by helping them gain knowledge and skills that will help them succeed as adults. We want to help young people overcome barriers in their lives and achieve their full potential. We know when we work together as a community, we can do just that!

Regina Connected Youth (RCY)

Bringing Regina Youth Back into the Fold

Regina Connected Youth (RCY) is a reintegration and community connection program designed for Regina youth ages 14-24 with involvement in the Criminal Justice system. Young adults are referred to RCY through the Ministry of Justice. A number of youths who are involved with RCY are gang affiliated. The Regina Connected Youth program was created through a partnership between Street Culture Project and the Ministry of Justice for youth at risk of further involvement in gangs or criminal activity because they lack opportunities or resources outside their current social network.

The RCY program helps at-risk youth navigate their probation order, access appropriate community resources, and enhance their skill base through one-on-one mentorship and group-based activities. This program aims to help reduce recidivism and prepare the youth and the community for the youths’ eventual return to the community. Everyone deserves a second chance, regardless of the mistakes they have made. Through the Regina Connected Youth program, we strive to support youth in making positive changes in their lives and in their communities.

Y-SHORE (The Youth Supported Housing Operations Resource Education) Program

Helping At Risk Youth

The Y-SHORE (The Youth Supported Housing Operations Resource Education) Program helps individuals 16-24 referred to us by CHIP (Centralized Housing Intake Process) transition from homelessness into independence. We help young people navigate the confusing and often overwhelming process of finding housing by setting up viewings, budgeting for necessities and learning how to be a respectful tenant. We also focus on setting individuals up with support within the community to help them feel valued and appreciated with the confidence to continually work on their educational, work and sobriety goals.

At SCP, we believe that every young person has the potential to do something great. We know that when you have a stable home, you feel empowered to pursue your dreams and work toward your goals. That’s why we do everything we can to help young people in Regina transition from homelessness into independence and feel joyful about their future.

*Homeless youth refers to youth who are staying at the shelter, couch surfing with friends, sleeping rough, or do not have a permanent place to stay.

Youth Transitions Unit (YTU)

Helping At Risk Youth in Regina

Youth Transitions Unit (YTU) works with youth ages 15-21 who are transitioning into independent living. Youths are referred to YTU through the Ministry of Social Services. The YTU program provides youth with a safe and supportive environment where they can gain valuable life skills to make a smooth transition into independent living. We believe that every young adult deserves to live a healthy, happy life, and we work hard to ensure they have the tools they need to succeed.

YTU aims to help at-risk youth build strong community connections through one-on-one mentorship. Through this one-on-one relationship, our mentors help youth learn skills like housing management, health and hygiene, job readiness, community connections, emergency planning, and goal setting. We believe that a strong network of relationships between youth and adults will provide a foundation for positive change in the community. Through the YTU, we aim to provide the structure needed for youth to develop a sense of identity and belonging within their communities.
